TRENDS for 2021 in home furnishing

Beautiful brick, raw concrete, warm, natural wood – these are the materials that prevailed in interior design in the previous season. Is their popularity still so high? What interior design trends will we see in 2020 and 2021? Which colours and accessories will turn out to be the most desirable? Check it out!

In 2020/2021 we will certainly not encounter boring, safe designs. In interior design, there are colourful walls, juxtapositions of many textures and textures next to each other, interesting metallic finishes combined with natural materials, as well as patterns, patterns and once again patterns – on wallpaper (floral patterns) or carpets and other accessories. The years 2020 and 2021 will bring many bold inspirations – originality comes first! Below we present the most important interior design trends that prevail in the interior design of detached houses.

More nature in interiors! The trend of 2020 and subsequent seasons!

Both manufacturers of the furniture industry and interior designers unanimously recognise that this year is the beginning of a change in approach to interior design and furnishing. This is why design based on floral or natural materials is an important trend. Introducing these elements into an interior will – according to the designers – strengthen the bond between man and nature. Therefore, in modern interior design, first of all, the rooms are very open to the garden (by means of large glazing and by resigning from curtains or roller blinds), there are real wooden planks on the floors, which often also appear on the walls, and the colours of the interiors are maintained in very natural colours, inspired by the surrounding nature (e.g. mint-grey green, olive, blue or flowery pink). The fashionable colours of the interiors in 2020, as well as in the following seasons, also refer to the earth burned by the sun – here the designers propose sand beige or terracotta orange. The interiors also use natural materials in the form of accessories: wicker or rattan baskets, dried potted grass, bamboo decorations. However, the biofilm trend is broken by modernity, where natural materials are combined with very raw, modern surfaces (glass, metal, aluminium).

Bearing in mind what is the basis of the new trend, which will remain indoors for many more seasons, there is no shortage of real, living plants in the arrangements. Not only do they have extraordinary aesthetic properties, but they also have health benefits: they clean the air of toxins and smog, produce oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. They are natural air filters in a flat, and additionally, they decorate modern arrangements beautifully.

Shapes of fashionable furniture in 2020 and 2021!

Fashionable furniture in 2020 and the following season is characterised by rounded corners or bent lines. The appearance clearly refers to the art déco style and arrangements from the 1970s! This trend – although it started as early as 2019 – is currently reaching its greatest popularity. Manufacturers of furniture and accessories are definitely moving away from straight lines or sharp right angles. What is interesting is that the smooth lines contrast with the raw materials used (leather, concrete, glass, metal). Also, furniture bent from rattan is popular – e.g. bar trolleys, chests of drawers or chairs. The whole is complemented by pouffes and footstools in the shape of a cylinder, often upholstered with soft plush. There is no shortage of fur upholstery and decorative pillows in living rooms.

Spherical shapes also become basic forms – e.g. angular coffee tables are replaced with tables with a cylinder, ball or cone base. There is also an oval or bent top made of wood, stone or metal. This trend is also moving to the kitchen, where the islands, which used to be rectangular, are increasingly taking the form of an oval! The same applies to accessories. Rectangular mirrors are being replaced by oval ones and are appearing more and more often not only in bathrooms but also in bedrooms, dining rooms or living rooms! In the decoration of the walls, on the top, there are patterns with graphics based on oval shapes – not angular, as in the previous season. Soft liners can also be seen in lamps – shades often take the shape of a sphere.

Noble marble – a great return!

Even though environmental trends – such as recycled furniture or Scandinavian style inspirations – are becoming more and more visible in interior design, precious marble is returning – and very clearly – to “living rooms”! Literally, because it appears in the form of wall and floor coverings in all rooms – not just in the kitchen or bathroom! Marble is used to covering kitchen and bathroom worktops, as well as living room furniture (coffee tables, dining tables) and accessories (clocks, lamps, etc.). Of course, in most arrangements, we deal with marble imitations – but they are so perfect that you can’t see that it’s not real expensive marble. And the use of marble imitations in interiors will certainly give them class and elegance.

Colours, patterns and textures in interiors from house designs in 2020 and 2021!

Still, in the living rooms, as well as bedrooms and kitchens, there are very ornate and bold wallpapers, curtains and pillowcases. However, the new designers’ proposals tempt with refreshed floral patterns, where instead of leaves of exotic plants, we will see our native field and garden flowers. Two or three colours will be more prevalent – more used colours than last season. In 2020 and 2021, fashionable powder pink, delicate black, subdued bottle green, mustard and blue are definitely leading the way. The background is rather bright – mint, white, grey. Fashionable floral patterns will appear not only on walls in the form of wallpaper and as a window decoration, but also in photo frames and carpets.

Fashionable interiors are decorated not only with colours and patterns but also with three-dimensional textures. We are talking here mainly about bathroom and kitchen tiles, which make a 3D impression. The surface of the furniture is also ambiguous – more and more often, a uniform, smooth finish is given up. Metal will also enter the interiors – and specifically, metallic shine, which will appear in the form of a shiny, metallic wall in the kitchen or bathroom. Metallic elements will also appear in accessories (lamps, trays, coffee tables). Copper and pink gold finishes are becoming more and more popular – they warm up this raw and modern material, giving the arrangement an incredibly chic and elegance.
