BIOMIMETICS is the imitation of nature, the use of natural techniques, structures, and processes from the natural environment. It is a scientific discipline, years of research and testing, and ingenious discoveries whose prototype was Velcro (the one from the dog’s tail), whose properties were used to produce the fastening method popular today. However, imitating nature and being inspired by its functioning can be implemented in the arrangement of our homerooms without such scientific preparations. What for? To create interiors that harmonize with our needs, are ergonomically arranged, functional and beautiful in their appearance. HARMONY In nature, all elements of the ecosystem live in perfect proportions, in full symbiosis and this ideal balance is disturbed only by … humans. Without entering into ecological polemics, but concentrating solely on the aesthetics of the home interior, be inspired by this natural sense of balance and harmony, introducing order and proportion into your furnishings. How? By hanging artwork on the wall to balance an overly empty wall against a large piece of furniture on the opposite wall. By placing a floor lamp next to an armchair to create a tandem that works well together. Don’t have the dining table next to the breakfast nook in the kitchen, as two tables next to each other in the same space would be a misunderstanding. By using different accessories, materials, textures, or colors, you will compose your ecosystem according to your inner nature. Harmony is a sense of balance and proportion. Being wary of overdoing it, of
A table and chairs are undoubtedly the most important pieces of furniture in our homes. Their importance is evidenced by the fact that they frequently appear in the works of artists. Tables are often the setting of the most prominent novels or films. Tables also appear in paintings. Therefore, it is safe to call them period furniture. Properly chosen, they will become the cradle of social and family life. What should you consider when choosing a table and chairs? Why not rely solely on fashion? You will find answers to these and other questions in the following paragraphs. What should a table be made of? An ideal table is a comfortable table. This rule also applies to chairs. Therefore, when choosing these pieces of furniture you cannot rely solely on style and fashion. It is most important that they are comfortable and solid. This will make both family members and guests want to spend long hours at the table. As life is very busy around it, the material of the table is a key issue. The number one in this category remains, of course, wooden tables. Properly protected, the natural raw material will be a companion for everyday dinners and lavish festive feasts for many years. Most tables are made of oak, beech or alder wood. Their advantage is, on the one hand, a very elegant look and a great fit into any arrangement, and on the other hand – durability and resistance to damage. For this reason, wooden tables
Timeless forms inspired by nature and geometry rarely go out of fashion. They may disappear from the latest catalogues for a while, but their proponents quickly make the motifs reappear in the most popular and sought-after proposals – then they win the hearts of everyone once again. Hexagons are exactly that. These hexagonal tiles have become a permanent fixture in interior design. Hexagons for everyone – beauty and elegance The popularity of hexagonal tiles does not come from anywhere. There are two factors that contribute to their popularity: their inspiration from nature and their geometric, ideal look. Hexagonal tiles have been present in nature for centuries, ever since industrious bees started building their honeycombs. It is from hexagons that the combs are laid. Their ideal form allows for maximum use of space – this is confirmed by mathematicians and scientists. No other geometric figure is able to make such good use of the available space while consuming little material at the same time. Hexagons, therefore, combine natural beauty with geometric functionality. They are used in various rooms. In kitchens, bathrooms, entire floors and walls are laid with them. In the living room or bedrooms, hexagons are usually added as details, delicate, decorative accents. How to choose hexagonal tiles for your kitchen? Hexagons are unique tiles, which with their colour and pattern can imitate interesting materials. Natural wood, stone, marble, travertine, concrete or the power of avant-garde patterns – all these can be imitated by ceramic tiles, and therefore by hexagonal
How often do you think about how you live? What do you surround yourself with, what style is your interior? Today I would like to suggest you take a look at your home with a visitor’s eye. It is a very interesting exercise that can lead you to amazing discoveries. Let me start by confessing something to you In my distant childhood, I went on a visit to Holland. While in England, windows were lined with lace curtains and thick drapes, hiding all the details of our interiors, I saw quite the opposite. Huge windows, completely uncovered, also after dark, made the view of the flat available to every passer-by. I watched these interiors with delight and almost maniacal adoration, walking around the housing estate every evening, amazed that people so freely make their lives available for public inspection. Of course, nobody did it. Only I, like a dog, let off the chain, ran around the neighbourhood with my eyes wide open (and probably my mouth too), trying to code as many details of these beautiful arrangements as possible. And I had a few years on my hands. To this day, that curiosity about interiors has stayed with me. Fortunately, I don’t have to look in people’s windows or through the keyhole, because I am a frequent visitor to various homes and my needs are met on a regular basis 🙂 Now you, deep down inside admit how many times you’ve looked into someone’s windows to see how they live?

However, iron fittings and folk motifs are acceptable, e.g. Lusatian, Kashubian or Highlander. If you choose furniture in natural wood colour, try that its surface is raw, full of picturesque cracks, rings and knots. It is best when it is light – then it looks the most homely. However, staining the furniture mahogany, walnut or rosewood is acceptable. Tops of kitchen cabinets? It’s up to you – they can be wooden or stone. Apart from furniture, other kitchen finishes are also very important, such as door and window frames, as well as an absolute rustic must have – decorative ceiling beams. It’s worth mentioning that a rustic kitchen with an island is very popular.

This can be especially true for the colours that are in vogue every year. Some colours make us feel better, others worse, and they can be simply tiring. This also applies to design. When we blindly follow the fashion, we can create a rather standard styling, in which our individuality is lost. After all, not everyone has to like the same things. So follow the rule – be inspired, not copied. Trendy stylizations, which we like, e.g. in interior design magazines or on the Internet, should be modified and adjusted to our own needs and preferences. We must also remember that trends are constantly changing and even the most fashionable style or colour will soon be out of fashion. A reliable way to cope with the ever-changing fashion
