Just a dozen or so years ago such interior decoration was popular in houses and flats, which in its perception and appearance evoked clear associations with folklore and homeliness. Today we can clearly observe the return of fashion for this type of interior design, which translates into an increased number of various accessories in shops with interior accessories. What is worth buying for our kitchen to give it a real country atmosphere?

What is rustic style anyway?

Before we move on to specific additives and the various possibilities of arranging a kitchen with rustic additives, it is necessary to explain what the rustic atmosphere itself is and what its characteristics are. Rustic style is, above all, a cult of familiarity and folklore, a reference to everything that was still common in every country cottage several decades ago. The basis was everything that everyone could produce themselves and decorate the space with – numerous folk ornaments, wood painted in pastel shades or simplicity are the basis of the rustic style. In the kitchen accessories, we find ceramics and clay, for example. However, despite appearances, it is possible to combine the rustic style and all that it entails with modern and contemporary forms. And this is what we should strive for while taking care of our home kitchen decor!

Rustic furniture

The basis of rustic kitchen decor should be furniture made of natural wood. We can bet here on relatively cheap furniture of simple form, as well as much more expensive carved furniture. However, it is worth remembering not to overdo the ornamentation, because the effect will be far from aesthetic. Rustic should be associated with us with a certain simplicity and a compromise between the available materials and their appearance. A rustic kitchen must first of all be useful and functional! A good idea is to use old, but refreshed furniture – it can be a single sideboard or cabinet with a display case or even a whole table with chairs. It all depends on the available space and our financial possibilities.

Additions to a rustic kitchen?

Coming back to accessories in a rustic style, it’s worth to get mainly handicrafts – any clay pots or ceramic plates and mugs will be very appropriate here. But don’t hide them in locked cabinets – they should be nicely displayed on shelves or even on the worktop!
